Opening Remarks By Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon Rufus Bature @ The Party’s Stakeholders Meeting At Kalwa House APC State Secretariat On Wednesday 31st January, 2024.

I welcome you all to this very important and all- inclusive stakeholders meeting of our great Party, the All Progressives Congress. This is a family meeting for which I crave your indulgence to feel free and discuss and contribute constructively.

Let me begin by commending all of us over well fought general elections in 2023. Though we went into the election with a lot of stereotyping and name callings by the opposition PDP which gave a lot of religious coloration to the campaigns, we were able to weather the storm with our impressive performance. Each vote recorded by our party was a genuine vote which we are proud of.

In a democracy, you win some and lose some. As painful as the loss of the gubernatorial election is to our great party in the State, we have a commanding majority at the National Assembly and State House of Assembly with two Senators, five members of the Federal House of representatives and 22 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly. This no doubt, is a testament of the strength of the APC in the State.

Having said this, I urge us all to remain focused and work in unison as we reposition our party for greater tasks ahead. No doubt, we must have had different approaches and strategies to the last election. I urge us to put all these aside and forge a common ground on the way forward. There is definitely some light at the end of the tunnel.

We have a very important task ahead of us in this Saturday rerun election in the Northern Senatorial District for the Senatorial seat and the Federal House of representatives seat for Jos North Bassa Federal Constituency. Thse two seats are very important to us. We should all work in earnest to win the rerun election. We should not be distracted by the antics of the PDP and pursue our goal of winning the two seats at stake. For the purpose of emphasis, our candidates for the two seats are Ambassador Chris Musa Giwa and Hon. Ibrahim Baba Hassan for the Senate and House of Representatives respectively. Thank God, the decision of the Federal High Court Abuja on Monday 29th January 2024 dismissing the PDP’s suit for inclusion on the ballot for the rerun has put all matters to rest in favour of our candidates. Congratulations.

To our 15 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly who have received their certificates of return having won thier cases at the Court of Appeal which is sacrosanct, I want to assure them that the Party hierarchy is doing everything possible to ensure their swearing-in. I urge them not to despair as the party is not resting on its oars over this untoward development. It can only be delayed as all the pranks being played are as unhelpful as they can only add to unnecessary build-up of tensions in the State.

We therefore call on the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to urgently reconvene without further delay the sitting of the House and swear in the 16 members who have already followed the necessary procedures. It is a fact that there is no Court judgement anywhere stopping them from being sworn-in as Members.

At this juncture, let me very specially commend our Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe and his Deputy, Hon. Pam Bot Mang over their uncommon demonstration of maturity, steadfastness, resilience and patience while the tribunal sittings lasted. They stand as embodiments of patriotism and statesmanship which our members and supporters remain very proud of them. Let me assure them that we hold them in very high esteem and the sky remains thier limit. Thank God, age is on their side.

I wish to seize this opportunity to commend our leaders especially those in Abuja for providing direction and support while the Court cases lasted. We shall continually look up to all of you for direction and advice on how to move the Party forward.

To all APC members and supporters across the State, we pay special tribute to all of you for remaining loyal, supportive and obedient even in the face of challenges, temporary setbacks and provocations. Let me assure you that we shall emerge stronger.
I advise you all to remain committed as we lend support to all our elected members to enable them represent us effectively.

I wish us all a very fruitful deliberation. Thanks and God bless.

Youths Storms Jos INEC Office, Demands Evidence of Inclusion of PDP inline with Court of Appeal order of Rerun

Plateau Youths Storms Jos INEC Office, Demands Evidence of Inclusion of PDP inline with Court of Appeal order of Rerun

Ogwugwu Audu Jos.

Youth in Plateau State in their numbers on Wednesday stormed the Plateau State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Miango Road, Jos demanding evidence of the inclusion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday 3rd February 2024 National Assembly rerun elections for Plateau North Senatorial District and Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency.

It would be recalled that in November 2023, the Court of Appeal had nullified the election of Senate Simon Mwadkon (P.hD) and Hon Musa Agah Avaih of Plateau North Senatorial District and Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency representatively, and ordered for a rerun.

In compliance with the Court of Appeal decision, INEC announced February 3rd 2024 as the date for the rerun.

However, youths comprising PDP members and other nonpartisan young people stormed the INEC Office over a rumoured exclusion of the PDP.

The agitated Youth leader while Speaking to INEC Officials who received him and his entourage on behalf of the crowd at the INEC Office, the Director Youth Campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party, Comrade Joshua Hitler Pwajok said they were compelled to storm INEC Jos Office to tell INEC not to attempt to exclude the PDP from the Saturday 3rd February Rerun.

“We are just here to inquire from the Resident Electoral Commissioner if there is something as such, it needs to be addressed…else on Saturday we can not guarantee what the situation will be like, so in order to avert an eminent danger it is better we profer solution to the matter…”,

According to him, the Court of Appeal had said that “All parties herein shall participate”.

He further noted that the Supreme Court had already validated the issue of structure of the PDP, same structure issue that was used to order for the rerun.

He urged INEC to consider the fragile peace on the Plateau and not plunge the state into another crisis, given that Plateau North Senatorial District was the strong hold of the PDP.

Similarly, Comrade James Nyango added that the judgement of the Appeal Court did not exclude any political party, stressing that INEC is not a court, hence they should comply with what the Appeal Court has said as well as the Supreme Court.

Also corroborating this position on behalf of nonpartisan youths who joined the protest, Chairman of the Plateau State Youth Council, Jos South LGA and the Chairman of the Forum of PYC LGA Chairmen of Plateau North, Dalyop D. Dung said the Youth chairmen irrespective of political parties, all political parties should be allowed to participate in the re run in the interest of peace.

He noted that there is insecurity in parts of the State, and given the current tension in the State, excluding any political party will be dangerous.

“Anyone that the people want him in Northern Zone, let the people go and vote for him”.

In the same vein, a Youth Activist, Comrade Prince Miaphen said the commission should know that if the PDP is not on the ballot, that there is eminent danger, stressing that it should be on record that Plateau youths came to complain about the rumour ahead of time.

Responding on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Deputy Director Administration and Head of General Administration of INEC in Plateau State Bisi Ajala (JP), said INEC remains neutral and assured the protesting youths that their complains will be escalated to the Headquarters of INEC in Abuja for further advise.

Similarly, the Deputy Director Legal, and Head of Legal – Elekwa Onyema Uche said INEC in Jos was in receipt of a letter of caution from the police regarding the same issue and they had informed the police that going by the law, particularly third schedule of the Constitution paragraphs 14 & 15, it is the INEC Headquarters in Abuja that is the Commission and the states take directives from the Commission’s Headquarters in line with paragraph 15 (X).

He added that they will inform the INEC Headquarters on the process and Interpretations from the Legal Department from the INEC Headquarters and within the next 48 hours the matter will be laid to rest.

Plateau: Accept Supreme Court Judgement On Plateau In Good Faith- Lalong Tells Stakeholders In Jos.

Otubi Audu Jos

The Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and leader of the APC in the Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong has appealled to Plateau APC Stakeholders to accept the judgement of the Supreme Court on the Plateau Gubernatorial Elections in good faith.

Lalong who stated this on Wednesday at his party Secretariat in Jos at a stakeholders meeting of his party, said he was awaiting for the copy of the judgement to be able to analyse it for future reference and strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy.

Lalong added that the APC remains a strong and united family with dominance in the State despite the recent setback.

He said the Supreme Court which has final say in Gubernatorial Elections has spoken and as strong democrats who believe in the rule of law, the APC in Plateau State and Nigeria at large have accepted the verdict and retrained their supporters from castigating the Judiciary or making inflammatory comments for the sake of peace and stability.

Lalong however said it was unfortunate that some people have engaged in over-drive analysis of the Supreme Court judgement without seeing a certified true copy of the judgement to be properly guided.

He disclosed that the APC has applied for the certified copy of the judgement to be able to properly digest and see how it can work to enhance its fortunes in future Elections.

“The judgement is yet to be released to the party.”

Senator Lalong however clarified the misconception going round that APC took a pre-election matter to court which was entertained by the High Court, Election tribunals and Appeal court.

According to him, “APC was never a party to the case between Hon. Kaze Vs PDP or the one between PDP Vs PLASIEC which went up to the Supreme Court and was dismissed against PDP. I want you to know that APC merely used the judgement given against the PDP to file its fun petition as a post election matter as provided by law. If you recall, the same issue was raised in Tinubu and Atiku where the tribunal decided that when there is a judgement against a party before an election, any other party can use it as a post-election matter to contest the verdict of an election. As far as we are concerned, the judgement which said PDP did not have structure in Plateau State was given in 2021 when the High Court had the jurisdiction to entertain party matters. That is what stopped them from contesting in Local Government elections and also nullified Hon. Musa Agah’s victory. I want people including my learned colleagues and the media to wait for the Supreme Court certified judgement before they conclude on the matter”. Lalong advised.

The former Labour and Employment Minister thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support to the party and urged the party members to go all out and secure victory in this Saturday rerun elections for Plateau North Senatorial seat and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.

While welcoming the APC stakeholders to the meeting, State Chairman of the party Hon. Rufus Bature said the party remains strong and will have to come to terms with the current situation with a view to coming out strong.

He assured the party faithfuls that the 15 House of Assembly members will be sworn in as there is no court order barring their inauguration as it is being peddled.

He also charged them to work hard for the victory of the party in the forthcoming rerun elections for Plateau North Senate and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.

A minute silence was observed for victims of attacks in some parts of Plateau State .

He called on the State Government to do the needful in securing the lives of the citizens of Plateau state.

The meeting had in attendance, the APC Gubernatorial candidate Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshewe and his running mate Hon. Pam Bot-Mang, former Deputy Governor Prof. Sonni Tyoden, APC Deputy National Secretary Hon. Festus Fuanter, Member Representing QuanPan/Mikang/Shendam Federal Constituency Chief John Dafaan, former Speaker Hon. Yakubu Sanda among others.

Sacked Plateau PDP Lawmakers threat toResume Legislative Duty At Plateau Assembly Is Invitation to Anarchy – Namang APC Spokesman.

22nd January, 2024.

PLATEAU SACKED PDP MEMBERS’ THREAT TO FORCEFULLY ATTEND SITTING TOMORROW: A CLEAR INSURRECTION & INVITATION TO ANARCHY.

It has come to the notice of the Plateau State Chapter of the APC, a plan by the 16 members of the PDP sacked by the Court of Appeal last year to invade the House which resumes sitting tomorrow after nearly two months recess as sitting members of the Plateau State House of Assembly.

According to information reaching us, the members sat at an undisclosed location and addressed the press on their invidious and diabolical plan.

According to information at our disposal, the sacked members would be accompanied by members of their various constituencies to cause confusion of an unimaginable proportion.

The press conference which was laced with threats, warned the APC Members of the House not to go near the House of Assembly because the “Supreme Court had invalidated the judgment of the Court of Appeal which sacked them”.

According to their spokesman, Maren Ishaku, the sacked member for Bokkos State Constituency who was flanked by 15 other sacked members “advised the Governor not to interfere because they are going to resist all pressure”!

What began last week as a veiled threat by a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon Istifanus Caleb Mwansat during his infamous interview with AIT is fast becoming a reality.

The APC and all peace- loving citizens of Plateau State had expected that he ought not be walking the streets as a free citizen following his inflammatory outbursts.

The APC wishes to state in no uncertain terms that the plans and threats by the sacked members contemplating any resumption of sitting as members is not only an assault on our democracy but an insurrection against the state, being an unabashed contempt of Court.

The APC accepted for the sake of democracy and peaceful coexistence, the judgment of the Supreme Court in good fate and appealed to our members not to embark on anything to the contrary which they obeyed.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Supreme Court judgement which awarded victory to the Governor is personal to him and has no multiplier or spill-over effect on anyone already sacked. This is moreover that there was no case pertaining the National and State Assembly Elections before the Supreme Court. The orbiter dictum as made by Justice Okoro concerning the fate of the sacked lawmakers cannot be said to be having any force of law

The Appeal Court judgment which sacked the 16 PDP State House of Assembly members and all its National Assembly members has a stamp of finality which cannot be upturned by any Court in the land in line with Section 246 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Just as we have accepted, as true democrats, the decision of the Supreme Court, the PDP has no option than to accept the fate that has befallen them and wait for the next election circle.

We call on all arms of security agencies in the state to up the ante to handle any illegal acts as the Plateau State House of Assembly resumes sitting tomorrow 23rd January, 2023.

The rule of law should be allowed to take its course and anything to the contrary should be visited with the most appropriate sanctions.

Plateau State which is standing on a very delicate security tripod following so many upheavals which have consumed thousands unsuspecting lives cannot afford this very avoidable threat and legislative onslaught.

It is not an act of cowardice on our part to stoop low, but we see the interest of our dear state as paramount.

Signed:

Hon Sylvanus Namang,
APC State Publicity Secretary

16 Plateau PDP Lawmkers Set to Resume Legislative Duties Tomorrow Tuesday At Plateau Assembly .

  • Says Supreme Court has Invalidated their Removal by Court Of Appeal Judgement.

Ogunenwa Otubi Jos.

Plateau Sacked 16 PDP Legislators have indicated their readiness to resume Plenary on Tuesday at Plateau House of Assembly, saying Supreme Court as superior Apex Court has Invalidated Court of Appeal Judgement against them.

The sacked Plateau legislators said they are taking leverage from the Supreme Court judgment, which overturned the judgment of the lower court and reinstated Governor Caleb Mutfwang as the duly elected governor of the state.

Speaking with newsmen in Jos on Monday, the PDP members warned their All Progressives Congress (APC) not to go near the House of Assembly on Tuesday because the Supreme Court by its pronouncement had invalidated the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which sacked them.

The spokesman of the 16 members, Ishaku Maren, said the Supreme Court had revalidated their election, which was wrongly taken away from them by the lower court.

Maren, who was flanked by the other 15 members, said that as law abiding citizens, they are ready to resume work to represent the people that duly elected them.

He said, “As you can see the 16 PDP members of the Plateau State House of Assembly all here to address the press regarding our resumption to duty tomorrow because our recess will be ending today ( Monday ), and by tomorrow,( Tuesday)we are resuming to walk in earnest and we are confident to address the press by informing the general public that my members that is PDP family members in the State Assembly are in high spirits and are willing and ready to go back and continue with our constitutional duty willingly given to us by the electorates. So we are all ready for the resumption of work tomorrow.

They added that “You might be aware that while were on recess, there were two Judgments that were passed regarding the status of state House of Assembly and Plateau State as a whole. “

The first one was that given by the Court of Appeal, where they said that one cannot put something on nothing; that PDP in Plateau state has no structure and it was on that premise to that they sacked all the 16 PDP members and lo and behold as we were on recess a superior court gave its own verdict regarding the same issue and in the judgment of the Supreme Court they said that the judgment that was brought before the Court of Appeal in its entirety was fraudulent and because of that the Court of Appeal lacked even the jurisdiction to entertain the entire matter.

“By that it shows that we are also referring to the same judgment that one cannot build something on nothing”

They advised the governor not to interfere with their resumption because they’re going to resist all pressure.

“The Court of Appeal members are deceiving themselves that they are coming to the house tomorrow to resume work but I’m confident to tell you that we are a product of democracy.

“We are validly elected by the majority of votes that were cast in our various respective constituencies and our constituents are willing and ready to accompany us as citizens tomorrow to the House of Assembly because they voted for us and they are not ready to compromise that and that is why they are seeing us to the state assembly tomorrow.
The spokesman of the Lawmakers stressed

Oracle Reporters gathered that the APC would be lawmkers have not take oath of office since Court of Appeal gave them the Seats as they were waiting for the resumption of the House from Recess.
