Attai Audu Jos

The Northern Governors Forum has described the assassination of Former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters Ahmed Gulak in Owerri as most unfortunate and totally condemnable and unacceptable .

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong in a statement issued in Jos through his Director of Press and public affairs Dr Simon Makut Macham and made available to Oracle Reporters, said the sad event is a criminal act that must be condemned in totality.

Lalong said the killing of Gulak must be seen as a criminal act and treated as such, warning against insinuations and politicization that could lead to further violence.

He said the report by the police that it has identified and engaged the suspected killers of the late politician should further be consolidated upon to enable security agencies forestall future occurrence.

Similarly, the Northern Governors Forum has expressed disgust over yet another abduction of innocent citizens across 3 local Government areas of Niger State including students and teachers of an Islamiya school.

According to Chairman Northern Governors Forum Lalong, this horrible situation needs to be brought to an end in order to give respite for the people to engage in their legitimate activities without molestation”.

He reiterated the commitment of the Forum to work with the security agencies and the Federal Government towards tackling the ugly high level of insecurity in the region and the nation at large.

Governor Lalong, Nigeria Peace Advocate Administration on the Plateau Turns Six as He Clocks 58 years.
By Makut Simon Macham
The Bible tells us ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God’.
In peacemaking, truth telling and truth seeking are honored, integrity is valued, and trust is given because it is earned, and is a refuge, a safe haven from the incivility and nastiness of conflict.
And so Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State clock 58 years on May 5, and his Rescue Administration on the Plateau turns six years today the 29th of May 2021 this Saturday.

Lalong’s modest nature and humility keeps him away from hugging the limelight unlike his more aggressive and socially astute contemporaries.

Governor Lalong in the last six years on the Plateau has been tirelessly interfacing with relevant individuals, groups and institutions towards restoring the legacies of the founding fathers of the North particularly the legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto in the Northern part of the county.
Governor Lalong, the peace Advocate currently chairs the meeting of Northern Governors Forum in Kaduna Following his election by Northern Governors as their Chairman to succeed the former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima

Lalong accendance to man the Chairmanship seat of Northern Governors forum was not by surprise, but because Governor Lalong has demonstrated leadership qualities that is forward looking and seeks to unite people and resolve conflicts while pursuing development.

Lalong’s strides in Plateau state led to the restoration of peace and accelerated development that has provided a very good example for the entire Northern States to put their trust in him to lead them.
It is on record that Governor had liaised seamlessly with President Muhammadu Buhari and other institutions of the Federal Government in pushing the interests of the Northern Region and also spearheaded the development of new blueprint for economic revival of the Northern Region.
As Chairman Northern Governors Forum, he has pushed for adoption of community policing by the Northern States, and as well spearheaded the adoption and implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Programme by the Federal Government and Northern states.

Lalong equally has coordinated the Response of the Northern States in the fight against COVID-19, lobbied for the payment of entitlements of employees of New Nigerian Newspapers and mediated in many disputes between various interests and groups in the North, and equally facilitated timely intervention and reconciliation among parties on national issues towards restoring confidence and understanding and as well spearheaded the final return of Almajiri children to their states of origin in the North.

Gov. Lalong, through the Northern Governors Forum, assures Nigerians of all ethnic, religious and political persuasions of their constitutional rights to pursue their legitimate businesses wherever they choose within the region and appealed to the people to resist any attempt to lure them into any act that can threaten the peace and tranquility of the region and the nation at large.

Governor Lalong on several occasions, called on citizens to shun and jettison divisive polices, rhetoric and body language so as to ensure sustainable peace in the country.

For the record, Simon Lalong temporarily suspended legal practice to join the political bandwagon in 1998. Under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he successfully contested the seat of the member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing his native Shendam Constituency.

In October 2000, Lalong became the speaker of the assembly, occupying that position till the year 2006, following a political storm within the House.

The seven years he served as the Speaker of Plateau Assembly made him the longest serving speaker of the House in the history of Plateau State.

During that period, he was two times (2001–2002) elected as the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of the 36 states of Nigeria.

In the year 2015, Lalong joined the contest to succeed Jang. This time, he did so under the All Progressive Congress (APC) political platform.

His chances even though seemed narrow at the beginning However the capricious nature of politics fixed the balance by favoring him with a slim margin to win the election to be come Plateau Governor who took over power from Jonah David Jang.

He was sworn in as the 5th Governor of Plateau State on May 29, 2015 and was re-elected for his second term in 2019 and sworn in on May 29, 2019.

His swearing in 2015 as the 5th Executive Governor of Plateau State ushered in a new vista of hope and expectations considering the state of affairs in Plateau at that time.
With a genuine need to change the narrative he remains one of those few modest Nigerian personalities quietly serving his country well and without fuss, in a country where the commonest rhetorical question revolves around self-recognition and self-propagation.
In his first term, the Governor’s Rescue Mission operated under a 5-Pillar Policy Thrust, namely: Peace, Security and Good Governance; Human Capital Development and Social Welfare; Agriculture and Rural Development; Entrepreneurship and Industrialization; and Physical Infrastructure and Environment. After re-election in 2019, he streamlined the vision to Peace, Security and Good Governance; Infrastructural Development; and Sustainable Economic Rebirth.
Venturing into partisan politics despite his enormous successes in profession and businesses had been largely informed by the desire to turn things around for his people.
In 2019, the people of Plateau State were impressed with the first term performance and genuine efforts of the Lalong administration that they decided to overwhelmingly take the Rescue Mission to the Next Level by giving the Governor and his Deputy, another four years.
Notwithstanding the fact that the Lalong administration inherited so many problems and amidst limited resources, high expectations and competing demands, the government settled down for business under the purposeful leadership of Governor Lalong.
Lalong believes and sees politics as call to serve and not to be served. He has a strong view that power should be used for the transformation of the society and development of the people. His view for seeking power is consistent and relentless search for transformational ideas and policies that will transform the lives of the people.
He has touched the lives of his people positively by bringing to them the dividends of democracy.
A man who always thinks much about Nigeria and less of self, Simon Lalong tries as much as possible to impact his wealth, both physical and human, to touch lives. He has used all means available to him to help the needy, the State and the country at large. He does not discriminate based on religion, sex or tribe.
A bridge builder and a grass root politician who has the capacity to build consensus in the political process and is viewed as a charismatic and strategic leader.
No matter what detractors may want to say, Lalong is a gentleman to the core.

His love for the masses is extraordinary, for he is a noble, detribalized and humane Nigerian who worked endlessly for the transition to democracy.

Little wonder other opinions have described him as a behemoth bestriding the political landscape of Nigeria like a colossus.
If within this short time as Governor he has etched indelible imprints in the sands of time to the admiration of his legion of fans and supporters, and become a voice to be reckoned with, then we can rest assured that the future would be greater.
Lalong is convinced that service and passionate desire to positively affect lives are also party of the motivating factors for him joining politics.
Love him or hate him, Simon Lalong has no doubt added colour and sophistication to the celebration of people of quality, achievement, distinction and honour.
Thus, without an iota of doubt, we call on Nigerians to continue to pray for the leaders like Gov. Simon Lalong, the Rescue leader as they tackle the various challenges facing the nation.

Public Hearing Of the Review Of 1999 Constitution: Don’t allow the Review To Go The Way Of Previous Ones –Governor Lalong

Attai Audu Jos.

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Chairman Northern Governi Forum has advised that the public hearing of the review of the 1999 Constitution should not be made an exercise that will go the way of previous ones that failed to address some key issues that are threatening the peace, security and unity of the country.

Lalong gave this charge during the opening ceremony of the zonal public hearing of the review of the 1999 Constitution in Jos on Wednesday..

Acccording to Governor Lalong, while several attempts have been made in the past to alter the Constitution in line with the yearnings of the people, not much seems to have been achieved despite the resources spent and time devoted.

” It is not proper to blame all the challenges of the country on the Constitution, it is however important that concerns raised about the current constitution which is the grundnorm that binds us together are addressed appropriately” .

Lalong argued that this is even more so when the clamour have persisted and rather than abate, are getting lauder saying this perhaps is the time to try something different and to this end, this public hearing is very important as it presents another opportunity for various interest groups to present their perspectives as to how they desire to see Nigeria administered.

“They are therefore afforded this platform to ventilate and make submissions as to what they want injected or removed from the 1999 Constitution to make it more responsive to the yearnings of all.”he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Deputy Senate President and Chairman Senate committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution Senator Omo-Agege noted that at the commencement of the 9th Senate, they have set for themselves a legislative agenda as a basis on which they are to be assessed .

Represented at the event by the chairman of the zonal committee of the review of the 1999 Constitution Senator Abdullahi Adamu representing Nassarawa West senatorial district at the National assembly, said sitting prominently in that agenda is the need to address by a way of Constitution amendments , topical issues like judicial and electoral reforms , local government autonomy and the devolution of powers.
He added that if they get those items through constitutional processes of alteration successfully, then Nigeria’s constitutional Democracy will be set on the right pedestal .

” Nigeria will take its pride of place among enviable constitutional democracies in the world . It is therefore with great pleasure that I convey the intention of the Senate to leverage on this constitutional Review exercise to achieve as many milestone as possible in one fell swoop.”Senator Adamu stressed.

Ignore Taraba Intergrity and Accountability group Allegation of N39 billion fraud Against Governor Ishaku’s Administration- Taraba Democratic group Tells Taraba Citizens.

Attai Utaji , Abuja

Taraba Democratic group for Good Governance ( TDGGG) a Political Pressure Concern in Taraba State has lampooned the forces behind the so called Taraba Intergrity and Accountability group who recently raised false allegation against the Government of Governor Ishaku of Taraba to the effect that about N39 billion was looted out of the state treasury within 5 years.

President of the group for Good Governance in Taraba state, Adamu Bello and Secretary Peterson Abraham at Media interaction with news in Abuja whose text was made available to Oracle Reporters, expressed shock over the concorted false allegations made against the Government of Governor Dairus Ishaku by armchair critics in the state .

” To the lovers of good Governance in Taraba state, it would not be possible for an administration in a state such as Taraba state to have misappropriated N39 billion in 5 years as alleged by the so-called opposition of Governor Ishaku Administration in Taraba state when the people of the state knows that what the state gets from the federation account is month is not enough .They argued.

Acccording to them, people of good conscience in Taraba, are aware of the developmental projects Governor Ishaku Administration initiated and executed in parts of the state that runs into billions of naira despite the meagre financial allocation to the state from the federation account.

They wondered why politics of pull him down syndrome is so much pronounced in Taraba state and advised the opposition elements in Taraba state to turn a new leaf by joining the Government of Ishaku in the state to move their state forward

Acccording to them, falsehood no matter how well cooked and packed against an achiever, will not holder water against the target.

The duo called on EFCC handlers to beware of those whose petitions before the anti graft agency are mere distractions and discard them, advising that any petition against Governor Ishaku Administration before it at the instance of so called ” Taraba Intergrity and Accountability group should be ignored ”

They also queried the rationale behind the group dragging the name of the younger sister of Governor Ishaku, Mrs Glady’s Kande – Mamman into the mud over how contracts were awarded at Taraba Primary Education board.

Mrs Glady’s Kande – Mamman a member of the board could not have become so powerful than the key officials of the board such as chairman and Secretary of the board to an extent that she alone dictates how contracts are awarded in the state Primary Education board.

They called on those after Mrs Glady’s Kande- Mamman not to crucify the pragmatic woman on account of being a younger Sister to Governor Ishaku.

Taraba Democratic Group for good Governance also called on Governor Ishaku to remain focused in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of his state and not allow enermies of the state to distract him from providing Purposeful Leadership to people of Taraba that voted him into office as their Governor.
