He presented the Draft of the first ever National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy for Nigeria (2025-2029) to the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and a wider relevant stakeholders for validation at Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
The event was declared opened by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, (CON).
This feat was the culmination of a collaborative efforts between the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), WorldFish, the Federal Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy, Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Food Security, the Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet) and a dedicated team of experts (Policy Drafting Team) led by the President of Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet) and the Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Development, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Anthony Ojonimi Onoja (Professor Extraordinarius, University of South Africa)..

The CGIAR Initiative on Aquatic Foods funded this project which started in 2022.
According to Professor Onoja, this was his contribution to sustainable development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Nigeria with the overall aim of providing protein security (food security), job creation and poverty reduction for his country, Nigeria.
“We expect the launch and successful implementation of this policy by next year.” He stressed.
